Barack Obama Biography
Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Kenyan father and an American mother on August 4th, 1961. His parents separated when he was 2 years old and eventually divorced. He spent his early childhood in Hawaii and moved to Jakarta, Indonesia at the age of six. He returned to Hawaii at the age of ten, graduating from high school in 1979 while living with his grandparents.
Obama moved to Los Angeles after high school and attended Occidental College for two years. He transferred to Columbia University, graduating in 1983 with a B.A. degree in political science specializing in international relations. He entered Harvard Law School in 1988 and completed his Juras Doctor degree magna cum laude in 1991 after becoming the Harvard Law Review's first black president in 1990. He married Michele Robinson in 1992 and is the father of two daughters, Malia Ann and Natasha.
Obama became a lecturer of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1993 until being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 in a landslide, receiving over 70% of the vote. Obama is currently the junior United States Senator from Illinois seeking the Democratic nomination in the 2008 presidential election. He is currently the only African American serving in the U.S. Senate.
He is also the best-selling author of 2 books, "The Audacity of Hope" and "Dreams From My Father", a memoir of his childhood. Obama loves basketball, a sport he participated in as a member of his high school's varsity team. He is also in the process of quitting smoking, although he admits that he has never been a heavy smoker.
Barack is the 44th and current President of the United States and the first African American to hold the office. Obama was the junior United States Senator from Illinois from 2005 until he resigned following his election to the presidency. He was inaugurated as President on January 20, 2009.
